Rosenthal Bar Exam Scholarship
As one of the only scholarship programs in the country that helps public interest law students with bar exam expenses, the Rosenthal Bar Exam Scholarship supports the pipeline of young California lawyers entering the legal profession as public interest attorneys. The Rosenthal Bar Exam Scholarship Program recognizes outstanding graduating California law students with financial need who are embarking on careers in public service law by providing financial support for costs related to taking the California Bar Exam. All winners will receive California Bar/Bri Law Review Bar Exam review courses (valued at more than $3,500), with top winners also receiving $2,000 in cash to help defray fees and related expenses of taking the California Bar Exam. The Scholarship is named in honor of Imelda Rosenthal, an emigre from Guatemala. Upon her arrival to the U.S., she learned the language and customs and soon was running a successful company. Reflecting upon her early days in America, Imelda began using a portion of her business' profits to help other young immigrants. After passing away from cancer-related illness, her family established a memorial fund, which led to the creation of the Rosenthal Bar Exam Scholarship Program. The Program is made possible by the generous support of law firms, voluntary donations from members of the California Bar, including prior scholarship recipients, and the Rosenthal family. Since 1997, the California Bar Foundation has supported almost 250 graduating law students through the Rosenthal Bar Exam Scholarship Program.

The Complete Application Packet includes the Criteria, Instructions, and Conditions, Application, Certification and Authorization Form, Certification of Financial Need, and Checklist. Application Deadline The 2012 Application Deadline is 4:30 p.m. on Wednesday, February 8, 2012. Please note that in order to provide enough time to select its nominees, a law school typically requires that Candidates submit their Applications to the law school by a date earlier than the Foundation's Application Deadline.
